Challenge
The challenge of the design was presented in the material. The sheet metal was heavy and could appear bulky if not folded enough times with large planes, but more folds would present more physical difficulty during assembly.

Process
The best way to play with the different shapes possible was with a single sheet of paper. I wanted to evoke something delicate to take away from the heaviness of the material. The most familiar shape I picture when presented with a sheet of paper is a paper airplane. Making paper airplanes is something I did often (perhaps as a nervous habit).
But I couldn't just start folding an airplane and expect the metal to do the same thing. I looked into the different methods of airplane folding and though there are many methods to fold a paper airplane, each outcome is a familiar silhouette. Using the main recognizable features led me to my final design.

Design
The final design allows fruit to be seen and reached for at various orientations with each side mimicking the long lines and quick angles of a folded airplane.
___
This fruit bowl was plasma cut from a single sheet of 16 gauge metal and then folded by hand.
After folding, the bowl was then professionally powder coated in food safe white.
